Japan's wheeled APC successor to the tracked Type 73
mediumThe Type 96 armored personnel carrier was developed by Komatsu as a wheeled troop carrier for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It addressed the need for faster road movement, lower operating burden, and better strategic mobility than older tracked APCs. The design entered service in the 1990s and became a visible part of JGSDF armored mobility, disaster-response displays, and overseas peacekeeping-related equipment sets.
