AKU-94

The AKU-94 is best treated as a US-market bullpup conversion kit for AK-pattern rifles, not as a Russian military standard weapon. Its name can easily be confused with Soviet or Russian designations, but available specialist coverage points to K-Var's aftermarket kit that moved the trigger group and ergonomics into a bullpup layout while retaining the base AK action.

The conversion's purpose was to shorten overall weapon length without changing the AK barrel and operating system. That created the usual bullpup tradeoff: compact handling at the cost of a longer trigger linkage, awkward controls, and sighting compromises compared with purpose-built bullpup rifles. The AKU-94 is therefore more useful as an example of aftermarket experimentation than as a mature infantry small arm.

For HiWars, the important correction is classification. The AKU-94 should not be described as a broad Russian assault-rifle program or a Kalashnikov factory design. It belongs in the small-arms dataset as a niche AK bullpup conversion with limited practical adoption, useful mainly for distinguishing aftermarket conversions from state procurement weapons.
