Development History
mediumOrion is Russia's MALE UAV family developed by Kronstadt to fill reconnaissance and strike gaps.
Orion, also associated with the Inokhodets program, was developed by Kronstadt as Russia's answer to medium-altitude long-endurance UAV requirements. Russia had extensive small UAV experience, but fewer mature systems in the MALE class comparable to Western or Turkish armed drones. Orion's public rollout and later service use marked an attempt to close that gap with a domestic platform for reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition, and strike-capable variants. The system became more prominent as unmanned aircraft gained operational importance in modern conflicts.
