Tien Kung II, or Sky Bow II, is part of Taiwan's indigenous Sky Bow surface-to-air missile family. It was developed to extend domestic air-defense capability beyond the earlier Sky Bow I system.
The missile family supports Taiwan's layered air-defense strategy by covering high-value areas and complementing imported Patriot systems. Tien Kung II also provided a technology base for later Sky Bow III development.
The system is significant because Taiwan's air-defense needs require reliable domestic production and upgrade paths under pressure. Sky Bow II helped NCSIST build the experience needed for more advanced anti-air and anti-ballistic missile systems.
