F-15I Ra’am

F-15I Ra'am, Hebrew for Thunder, is Israel's version of the F-15E Strike Eagle. It gives the Israeli Air Force a two-seat, long-range strike aircraft with heavy weapons carriage and Israeli mission systems. Boeing Israel treats the future F-15I+ upgrade alongside the F-15IA, while open-source F-15E references identify the F-15I as a distinct Israeli-operated Strike Eagle derivative. Its role is not pure air superiority: it is a strategic strike and deep-attack platform with fighter performance and large payload.

The F-15I's technical character comes from combining the F-15E Strike Eagle baseline with Israeli-specific avionics and self-protection systems. The Strike Eagle airframe provides conformal fuel tanks, high payload, two crew, and long-range strike performance. Israeli customization adds national electronic warfare, navigation, communications, and weapons-integration features. Boeing's F-15I+ modernization messaging points toward upgraded mission computers, cockpit systems, sensors, and survivability features that would bring the existing fleet closer to the new F-15IA standard.

Operationally, the F-15I has been one of Israel's most important long-range strike assets because it can carry large precision-guided payloads farther than many smaller fighters. The 2024 DSCA notification specifically included mid-life update kits for 25 existing F-15I aircraft alongside new F-15IA procurement. That shows the fleet is expected to remain relevant rather than being retired.
