A Large Number of US F-35s to Be Stationed at Misawa Air Base in Japan
The U.S. military command in Japan announced that four U.S. F-35A fighter jets have arrived at Misawa Air Base in Japan. The base's 36 F-16 fighter jets are expected to be upgraded and expanded to 48 F-35A jets, strengthening the so-called "U.S.-Japan alliance air defense capability advantage."
Zheng Jian, a special researcher at the Cross-Strait Relations Research Center, stated, "This base can directly reach Northeast China and the entire inland deep areas to threaten those directions. Secondly, this is one of the important bases for the U.S.-Japan joint forces to control several straits on the first island chain. By using leapfrogging and aerial refueling, they can deploy forces to the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait."
