Aselsan develops trailer-mounted counter-drone system

Turkey’s largest defense company ASELSAN displayed a trailer-mounted version of its SARP 100/35 weapon turret during a recent facility visit by Turkish official Bayraktaroğlu, according to information shared by Ahmet Alemdar, co-founder of Defence Turk Magazine, on social media platform X.

Images published following the visit showed the SARP 100/35 system — previously known as KORHAN — configured on a trailer platform rather than an armored vehicle. The configuration was observed during Bayraktaroğlu’s inspection of ASELSAN facilities, highlighting an alternative deployment option for the turret system.

According to Alemdar, the turret is planned for integration on 8×8 armored combat vehicles but was presented in a trailer-mounted format capable of protecting fixed locations such as ports and military bases against both ground and aerial threats.

The SARP 100/35 is a remotely operated weapon turret equipped with a 35mm cannon designed for air defense and ground engagement roles. The system is compatible with 35mm ATOM programmable airburst ammunition, which is intended to counter aerial targets including unmanned aerial vehicles while maintaining effectiveness against surface threats.

The trailer-based configuration allows the turret to operate independently from armored platforms, enabling rapid deployment to static defense sites. Such setups are commonly used to secure critical infrastructure where permanent air defense coverage is required without dedicating maneuver units.

The SARP 100/35 system incorporates electro-optical targeting sensors and remote operation capabilities, allowing operators to engage targets while remaining protected at a distance. The use of programmable 35mm ATOM ammunition enables the turret to create controlled fragmentation patterns designed to intercept drones and low-flying aerial threats.

As noted in Alemdar’s post, the system’s appearance in trailer form suggests potential use cases beyond vehicle integration, particularly for defending installations such as ports, logistics hubs, and forward operating bases against combined aerial and ground threats.

ASELSAN has developed multiple remote weapon and air defense systems in recent years as part of Türkiye’s broader effort to expand domestically produced counter-drone and short-range air defense capabilities. The SARP 100/35 represents an evolution of earlier turret concepts adapted for modern battlefield requirements involving unmanned systems.
