BAE Systems unveils new modular gun system at Euronaval 2026
03 November 2026 – BAE Systems unveiled a new modular 40mm naval gun system at Euronaval 2026. The system is part of a new scalable suite of gunfire protection solutions, built upon the combat-proven Bofors 40mm system and programmable 3P ammunition, which together provides the ability to engage a wide range of air, surface and shore-based threats.
The suite of solutions includes the Sea Tridon, Sea TridonC (containerized), Sea Trinity, and the Bofors 40 Mk4 Naval Gun. The modular approach allows operators to choose between different levels of sensor integration, fire-control capability and deployment flexibility while maintaining commonality in training, logistics and support.
“The maritime threat landscape is evolving rapidly, creating a growing need for flexible and effective protection solutions,” said Lena Gillström, President of BAE Systems Bofors. “With the Sea Tridon, navies and maritime operators can select the capability level that best meets their operational needs while benefiting from a common platform, proven technology and advanced programmable ammunition.”
The family consists of four solutions:

A modern, compact and lightweight naval gun system designed for integration with ship combat systems, providing effective protection against both air and surface threats.
At the core of all four solutions is the Bofors 3P programmable ammunition, which can be configured immediately before firing to optimize effects against different target types. The ammunition provides six programmable fuze modes and enables a single ammunition family to engage air-, surface- and shore-based threats.
