China Coast Guard Organizes Law Enforcement Control Drill Near Huangyan Island

[Global Times - Global Network Report by reporters Li Yahui and Fan Wei] On September 27, the Chinese Coast Guard organized a rights protection law enforcement control drill in the waters near Huangyan Island, focusing on law enforcement actions such as boarding inspections, interception of intrusions, and forced towing, to strengthen control over the waters around Huangyan Island in accordance with the law.

According to a reporter from the Global Times at the scene, multiple types of Coast Guard vessels were deployed for this drill, involving various training scenarios.

During the interception drill, the Coast Guard fleet organized vessels to carry out law enforcement actions such as verification and identification, verbal warnings, route control, and water cannon spraying. A reporter from the Global Times observed high-pressure water jets shooting out, arcing through the air, and producing a loud noise. Chinese Coast Guard officer Zheng Longbiao told reporters that the water cannon spray can effectively prevent foreign vessels from intruding.

In the boarding inspection segment, Chinese Coast Guard officers boarded simulated foreign intruding vessels with law enforcement equipment to conduct inspections.

It is worth mentioning that this drill also included a forced towing simulation of foreign intruding vessels, where Coast Guard officers executed encirclement and interception, as well as close-range stopping actions against the target vessels. A reporter from the Global Times saw two Coast Guard boats encircling the target vessel from both sides, approaching at full speed to chase and block, forcing the other party to slow down and stop.

In addition, the entire drill utilized drones for law enforcement evidence collection, demonstrating coordinated responses between sea and air. "The drone's perspective is broader and more comprehensive, allowing for full evidence collection of the unprofessional and irregular operations of foreign infringing vessels from a higher vantage point," said law enforcement officer Qiu Canhui.

Recently, the Philippines has been rallying external countries to conduct a live military exercise with the ASEAN defense ministers' expanded meeting in the air and sea near China's Huangyan Island, using the guise of security cooperation to engage in infringement provocations, deliberately undermining regional peace and stability. Huangyan Island is an inherent territory of China, and China has indisputable sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction over Huangyan Island and its surrounding waters. It is understood that the Chinese Coast Guard will intensify its rights protection law enforcement control efforts in the waters near Huangyan Island, resolutely safeguarding national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
