Just before the attack occurred, a train carrying former British Prime Minister Johnson, former Swedish Prime Minister Bildt, and several security advisors from EU member states had just departed from the station.

According to AFP, at the time of the attack, a train carrying former CIA Director Petraeus was stopped at the Yagodyn station, and he and other passengers were subsequently evacuated. The incident occurred about two kilometers from the Polish border.

The Ukrainian State Railways Company stated on the 13th that the intended target of the Russian drone was likely the diplomatic train carrying Johnson and others, but the train left the station earlier than scheduled due to a timetable adjustment. According to Ukrainian news agency reports, Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski described this as a "provocative act" by Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba stated that Russia's "terrorist actions" have "knocked on the doors of NATO and the EU," calling for increased pressure on Russia and enhanced military support for Ukraine.

According to Reuters, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell stated on the 14th that the Russian attack aimed to intimidate Western countries supporting Ukraine. German Defense Minister Pistorius also stated on the same day that this act was a deliberate escalation by Russia, intended to spread fear across Europe. French Foreign Minister Borne also indicated that the attack was aimed at intimidating and dividing Europe.

According to TASS, Russian presidential spokesman Peskov responded to the attack on the 14th, stating that the Russian military is carrying out its tasks throughout Ukraine and will continue to do so.
