Feng Yufang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is an expert in missile warhead and warhead technology in China. He has dedicated his life to answering a question: how to make missiles accurate, penetrate effectively, and cause significant damage.

In the 1990s, China's missile technology innovation faced significant challenges. Stagnation would lead to continuous backwardness and passivity. The transformation and reform of the missile forces were urgent. In 1987, Feng Yufang graduated from the National University of Defense Technology. He chose not just a career, but a mission, to forge a powerful sword for the Republic that could win battles.

Implementing the concept of penetration in weapon development to fill the technological gap in the Rocket Force

Feng Yufang and his team self-studied electronic science and technology, then proposed a concept for penetration, which was ultimately implemented in weapon development. This breakthrough filled a gap in the Rocket Force's penetration technology.

From blank to breakthrough in missile penetration. Feng Yufang turned the theory of "unblockable" into reality. From then on, the penetration technology he led the development of became a core standard for missile weaponry. But this was not the end; it was a transition from one challenge to the next.

Every missile that passes through Tiananmen is infused with his dedication

On October 27, 1966, China's first missile with a nuclear warhead, the "Dongfeng-2A," was launched. The combination of the two bombs gave China the confidence of nuclear deterrence.

Feng Yufang placed this photo on his desk to constantly remind himself: the things that the older generation fought for with their lives, he must protect and refine throughout his life.

That time of "combining the two bombs" allowed the strategic missile forces to stand tall for the Chinese nation. Now we need to accomplish more significant tasks like this, making our country more confident and resilient.

Years of hard work and sleepless nights silently drained his health. The years 2023 to 2026 were days of struggle against illness for Feng Yufang. At that time, it was also a critical phase for the Rocket Force's equipment iteration, tactical upgrades, and technological breakthroughs.

Tao Lin explained that after the surgery, during chemotherapy, he came to work wearing equipment on his head and carrying a large battery in his pocket. The first thing he did upon arriving was to gather his key team members to discuss research projects, technical challenges, and future work directions.

Despite his illness, he kept the research topics close to him. The performance of the new generation of missile warheads was repeatedly advanced under his guidance. Over thirty years of experience and technical accumulation were all left to the young successors behind him. From one person to a team, from one technology to a system. The growth path of the strategic missile forces is such a journey—a magnificent history of struggle, a battle history of overcoming difficulties, and a pioneering history of forging a protective shield for the sky. Every step Feng Yufang took was a cornerstone of this path.

Every missile that passes through Tiananmen is infused with his dedication. From the age of 24 to 63, thirty-nine years have passed. He is gone. But the sound of every missile launch is the last echo he leaves in this world.
