General Dynamics wins Navy deal to modernize shipboard C5ISR suite

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) has been awarded a $988 million contract to modernize the U.S. Navy’s command-and-control and surveillance systems across all classes of surface combatant ships, the company announced on Jan. 12.

The award, issued in December, launches a one-year base period with four one-year options and a six-month extension.

According to the announcement, the Ship and Air Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Systems Support (SACSS) contract will task GDIT with integrating and upgrading C5ISR systems to maintain fleet readiness. The company said the work includes engineering, procurement, logistics, and installation services on guided-missile ships, aircraft carriers, Coast Guard vessels, unmanned platforms, and shore facilities.

As noted by GDIT, the upgrades are intended to keep current platforms operational while supporting mission continuity. The company will modernize legacy systems and install new equipment designed to improve sensing, communications, and combat-system performance across the Navy’s surface force.

“C5ISR systems are foundational to how our Navy senses, communicates and fights in the modern battlespace,” said Brian Sheridan, GDIT’s senior vice president for Defense. “We look forward to continuing to deliver innovative solutions to ensure these vital systems operate at peak performance and enable our warfighters to stay ahead of emerging threats.”

The company’s statement highlights its long-running support to the Navy, including development of electronic-warfare technologies for airborne platforms, training services used by more than 100,000 U.S. and allied sailors, and artificial-intelligence and machine-learning solutions for Navy enterprise programs.

GDIT operates as a business unit of General Dynamics, a global contractor active in shipbuilding, weapons systems, munitions, business aviation, and defense technologies. The company reported $47.7 billion in revenue in 2024 and employs more than 110,000 personnel worldwide.
