German Navy Test-Fires LORA Ballistic Missile
According to a report by Reference News Network on September 5, the German newspaper Welt reported on September 2 that the German Navy aims to significantly increase the range of its missiles. German frigates successfully completed a previously classified test of the Israeli Long-Range Artillery (LORA) system in the North Atlantic. Currently, plans to procure this weapon, which has a range of over 500 kilometers, will move forward.
According to reports, two German frigates were dispatched to the waters between Ireland and Iceland for the testing.
Jan Christian Kack, the Director of the German Navy, stated: “With the successful launch of a ballistic missile in the North Atlantic last night, we have written a new chapter in naval history. I am very pleased with this achievement.” He noted that the system can be deployed and put into use on German vessels, “with a potential range that exceeds all systems we have known before.” He explained: “This test is aimed at protecting Germany and our allies, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our maritime deterrence and readiness.”
LORA is a ballistic missile developed and produced by Israel, which has used this missile multiple times. The missile is housed in a launch container, allowing for rapid deployment on ships.
