Xinhua News Agency, Gaza, June 5 (Reporters Huang Zemin, Zhao Weihong) The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement on the 5th, saying that its leadership delegation arrived in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on the same day and will discuss the practical implementation of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip with mediators starting on the 6th.

The statement said that the delegation is led by senior Hamas official Khalil Hayya. The talks are expected to last several days, during which the delegation will meet with Egyptian officials and relevant mediators in order to effectively implement the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, stop the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, and establish an appropriate mechanism to enter the second phase of the ceasefire.

The statement also mentioned that the delegation will meet with various Palestinian factions and political forces to articulate a unified national position on multiple issues and reach a consensus on how to respond to the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.

Since the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect in October 2025, Israel has continuously launched attacks on the grounds that Hamas has violated the ceasefire agreement. Data released by the Gaza Strip health department on June 4 shows that since the agreement took effect, Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip have resulted in 947 deaths and 2,935 injuries.

According to a report by the Israel Times on the 1st, the mediators for the Gaza ceasefire plan to restart negotiations with Hamas regarding disarmament in Egypt this week. This negotiation is currently at a stalemate, as Hamas refuses to accept the "Peace Committee's" proposal on disarmament and demands that Israel first effectively fulfill the terms of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
