The Mission Technologies division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has been awarded a contract by the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in relation to its Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) programme, HII announced on 13 January 2026.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, which has a ceiling value of USD 151 billion (EUR 130 billion), “encompasses a broad range of work areas that allows for the rapid competition and delivery of innovative capabilities to the warfighter with increased speed and agility”, HII stated in a press release.

For HII the contract opens opportunities to advance solutions in directed energy, command-and-control system integration, data and cyber operations, micro-electronics, spectrum management, live/virtual/constructive training environments, as well as logistics and sustainment — all areas where Mission Technologies has a track record of expertise.

The SHIELD programme is designed to develop advanced technology to support a future ‘layered’ US missile defence architecture, primarily to support the Trump Administration’s Golden Dome initiative. The MDA has qualified thousands of companies to compete for future awards under SHIELD.

“We’re honoured to support MDA on this important SHIELD mission,” stated Andy Green, executive vice president of HII and president of Mission Technologies. “It reinforces our commitment to advancing national security and protecting the homeland. SHIELD represents a critical element of the current vision for homeland defence, and we’re excited to bring our expertise in directed energy, microelectronics and systems integration to help meet these mission needs.”
