Houthi Forces Attack Government Troops Again, UN Envoy Warns of Escalation in Yemen Conflict
Xinhua News Agency, Kuwait City, August 10 (Reporter Yin Zhao) - Sana'a reports: An officer from the Yemeni government forces stated on the 10th that the Houthi armed group launched a drone attack on a government military position in the southeastern province of Shabwa, resulting in the deaths of 3 soldiers and injuries to another 9 soldiers.
The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, issued a statement on social media that day, expressing deep concern over the recent frequent attacks by the Houthi armed group on areas controlled by the Yemeni government, and warned that the latest developments could push Yemen back into full-scale conflict.
On the 9th, the Houthi armed group used ballistic missiles and drones to attack a government military assembly point and weapons depot at the port of Mocha on the Red Sea coast in Taiz province. A local official told Xinhua that the port of Mocha was heavily attacked, causing severe damage to port facilities. Local media and health authorities reported that the attack resulted in at least 8 deaths.
On the 6th, the Houthi armed group attacked government military camps and positions in the eastern provinces of Marib and Hadramaut, resulting in at least 35 soldiers dead and dozens injured. Marib province is a key stronghold for government forces and a major site for oil and gas production in Yemen.
In addition, since the Houthi armed group announced a "maritime blockade" against Saudi Arabia in late July, it has repeatedly attacked Saudi oil tankers and oil facilities within Saudi territory. The organization claimed on August 9 that it used drones to attack the Saudi Aramco refinery located in Jizan, Saudi Arabia.
