I Received Praise for Completing Road Repair Tasks with the South Sudan Peacekeeping Engineering Team

PLA Daily News, Special Correspondent Wang Yi reports: Recently, the 16th batch of Chinese peacekeeping engineering troops to South Sudan (Wau) successfully completed the road leveling and repair task for the "Airport - Sukhar Jir Bridge" line in Wau City, opening up a safe and smooth "convenience road" for the local people, and receiving high praise from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and the local government.
The "Airport - Sukhar Jir Bridge" line in Wau City consists of asphalt and laterite roads. Due to long-term rain erosion and heavy vehicle traffic, the asphalt surface was severely damaged, and the laterite roadbed had many sunken and pothole areas, which seriously affected the daily travel and material transportation of the local people.
After receiving the task, the team immediately organized technical backbones to form a task force, conducted on-site surveys, and further improved the construction plan based on the conditions of the task area. For the two different road conditions of laterite and asphalt, the team implemented classified strategies and precise construction.
In the laterite road section, the team adopted a layered filling and compaction method. In the asphalt road section, due to prominent issues such as surface cracking and roadbed subsidence, directly filling and compacting laterite could easily lead to separation of the new and old surface layers, water seepage through gaps, and subsequent settlement and cracking. Therefore, the team redefined the road surface boundaries, removed loose and subsided roadbed material, strictly controlled the filling slope and compaction, ensuring that the backfilled laterite closely adhered to the original asphalt road, effectively enhancing the road's load-bearing capacity and traffic stability.
