On the afternoon of July 26 local time, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian spoke on the phone with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to exchange views on the attack on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea and the regional situation.

According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Amir-Abdollahian stated that the Ukrainian attack on the Iranian merchant ship is a dangerous act of recklessness and a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter. He emphasized that Iran will firmly defend its security and national interests.

Lavrov condemned the attack on the Iranian merchant ship, stating that this incident violates international law, poses a threat to trade routes between Iran and Russia, and asserted that Ukraine should be held accountable for launching the attack, which jeopardizes commercial shipping in the Caspian Sea.
