Iran: Currently "Reviewing" US Response to 14-Point Proposal, Negotiations Not Involving Nuclear Issues
Xinhua News Agency, Tehran/Riyadh, May 3 - According to a report from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting on May 3, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei said that the United States has responded to Iran's 14-point proposal through the intermediary Pakistan, and Iran is "currently reviewing" it. At this stage, the negotiations do not involve nuclear issues.
Baghaei stated, "At this stage, we are not conducting nuclear negotiations," and that Iran's plan to end the war does not involve nuclear issues. He also said that claims regarding Iran's commitment to mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz are purely media fabrications, and Iran does not accept negotiations under ultimatums or imposed deadlines.
On the same day, media from Gulf countries reported that Iran has "abandoned" some of the previously set conditions and agreed to include nuclear issues in negotiations with the United States. According to reports from Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya television citing sources, Iran proposed to limit uranium enrichment to 3.5% and gradually reduce its existing stockpile of enriched uranium. The Iranian proposal also includes gradually reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. lifting its maritime blockade against Iran.
On May 2, Iran's Tasnim News Agency disclosed the latest negotiation plan that Iran recently conveyed to the United States via Pakistan, totaling 14 points focused on "ending the war." The main content includes ensuring that military aggression does not occur again, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the surrounding areas of Iran, lifting the maritime blockade, unfreezing Iran's frozen assets, paying compensation, lifting sanctions, achieving peace on all fronts (including Lebanon), and establishing a new management mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, U.S. President Trump stated that he would soon evaluate Iran's newly proposed negotiation plan, but he "cannot imagine" that the plan "would be acceptable."
