Xinhua News Agency, Baghdad, May 23 (Reporter Li Jun, Duan Minfu) The Iraqi military announced on the 23rd that airstrikes and ground operations were launched in Kirkuk province in northern Iraq, killing four armed members of the extremist organization "Islamic State."

The Security Media Center under the Joint Operations Command of Iraq stated in a statement that based on intelligence information, the Iraqi Air Force conducted two airstrikes on a hideout of "Islamic State" armed personnel in Kirkuk province, destroying the target and killing three armed members.

The statement said that after the airstrikes, the Iraqi military dispatched reconnaissance forces to conduct search operations in the relevant area, discovering and killing the fourth armed member of "Islamic State."

The Iraqi government announced in December 2017 that the operation against "Islamic State" had achieved victory, but the remnants of the extremist organization still occasionally launch attacks. In recent years, the Iraqi military has continuously strengthened air and ground clearance operations to prevent the resurgence of the extremist organization.
