According to CCTV reporters, the Iraqi militia group "Iraqi Islamic Resistance Movement" launched an attack on a U.S. military base near Erbil Airport on March 1 local time.

The group stated that it used drones carrying explosive devices to carry out the strike in retaliation for the joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran. The group later issued a statement claiming that it also used rockets to attack another base.
