Israel insists it will continue military operations in southern Lebanon.

On June 22, Xinhua News Agency reported from Jerusalem (reporters Pang Xinyi and Wang Zhuolun) that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Katz, and Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Zamel stated in a joint declaration that the IDF will continue military operations in southern Lebanon to address "security threats," while maintaining control over the so-called "security zone" in southern Lebanon.

The Prime Minister's Office also issued a statement saying that the three met with the commander of the IDF Northern Command to assess the security situation on the northern front, and the IDF will continue to take "resolute" actions to destroy relevant military infrastructure and eliminate threats.

Earlier that day, Netanyahu claimed that the IDF has "full operational freedom" in southern Lebanon, and that Israel will continue to remain in the "security zone" in southern Lebanon until the relevant security needs are met.

A U.S. and Iranian delegation held negotiations on the 21st in the Swiss town of Birgelen. This is the first round of talks following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran. Iran has consistently linked the Lebanese issue closely with the negotiations. In the official text of the memorandum of understanding released by the U.S. and Iran on the 17th, the first point demands an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, while also ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
