Kuwait defends Ali Al Salem Air Base from missile strike

Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that Ali Al Salem Air Base was targeted by multiple ballistic missiles earlier today, with Kuwaiti air defense forces successfully intercepting the incoming threats, according to an official military statement released Saturday.

Debris from the interception reportedly fell in areas surrounding the base, but authorities said defensive systems neutralized the attack before impact.

Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said in a translated statement: “Ali Al Salem Air Base was subjected to targeting by a number of ballistic missiles, and the Kuwaiti air defense forces successfully confronted them this morning, resulting in debris and fragments from the interception process falling in the vicinity of the base.”

The Kuwaiti General Staff emphasized that the armed forces remain fully engaged in defending national sovereignty. The statement added: “The Armed Forces continue to carry out their missions and duties in defending the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait and confronting any threat to the security and stability of the country.”

Authorities also issued a public safety warning following the interception. Military officials urged civilians to avoid approaching missile fragments or unidentified debris that may have landed after the defensive engagement. The statement said: “The General Staff calls on citizens and residents to stay away from any objects or parts that may have resulted from the interception process or the fall of missile debris, not to approach or touch them, and to immediately report them to the competent authorities.”

Officials further cautioned the public to rely only on verified information sources, stating: “Everyone is urged to obtain information from official sources and not be drawn into rumors or the circulation of unreliable information.”

According to the Ministry of Defense, Kuwaiti air defense units detected and engaged the incoming ballistic missiles early in the morning, activating interception systems designed to counter high-speed threats. While the statement did not identify the origin of the missiles or specify the defensive systems used, Kuwait operates layered air defense capabilities intended to protect strategic military installations and critical infrastructure.

Ali Al Salem Air Base is one of Kuwait’s primary military air installations and plays an important role in regional security coordination. The base supports Kuwaiti Air Force operations and hosts coalition activities tied to regional defense missions, making it a potential target during periods of heightened confrontation.
