Lebanese President: Israel's Continued Violations of the Agreement Are Unacceptable
On July 27, Xinhua News Agency reported from Beirut (reporters Cao Changhao and Shen Feng) that Lebanese President Aoun stated that Lebanon is committed to implementing the framework agreement signed with Israel, but the continued violations of the agreement by Israel are unacceptable.
According to a statement released by the Lebanese presidential office, Aoun expressed during a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Turk, at the Baabda Palace that Israel has occupied southern Lebanon to this day and continues to destroy homes and flatten villages in the region, which constitutes "a direct violation of human rights and a blatant violation of international laws and norms."
Aoun also condemned Israel's deliberate attacks on Lebanon's religious and historical cultural sites, emphasizing that these locations are civilian areas with no military activities. He called on the international community to take action to stop Israel's breach of the agreement.
During a press conference in Beirut, Turk stated that Israel continues to carry out airstrikes and shelling against Lebanon, using explosive weapons in densely populated areas, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and displacements, with some actions potentially constituting international crimes. At the same time, Hezbollah has launched rockets into Israeli population centers, also causing civilian deaths and damage to civilian infrastructure.
Turk mentioned that the United Nations has deployed an independent assessment investigation team to Lebanon and has begun collecting information and evidence related to violations of international law by the parties involved in the conflict since March 2. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has recorded instances of "large-scale violations of international humanitarian law," with some actions potentially constituting "war crimes."
