Poland Deploys Self-Developed Space Satellite Network
According to a report by Reference News Network on May 19, as reported by the Russian news agency Lenta on May 15, Poland has successfully deployed its self-developed satellite network, which can obtain geospatial imagery.
The Polish Ministry of Defense announced that four micro reconnaissance satellites developed by the Polish branch of Iceye have officially been put into operation. The military also released images captured by these satellites of facilities within Russia.
The Polish Ministry of Defense stated on social media platform X: “Just one year after the contract was signed, Poland has completed the deployment of the Synthetic Aperture Radar Micro Satellite Earth Observation System (MikroSAR).”
To demonstrate its technological capabilities, the Polish branch of Iceye released high-definition satellite images taken on May 6 of the Russian Northern Fleet base located in Gadzhiyevo. The company's head, Witold Witkowski, stated that this system, composed of dozens of satellites in orbit, has strong anti-jamming capabilities, and damage to a single satellite will not lead to the paralysis of the entire satellite network.
The total amount of the cooperation agreement reached between the Polish military and the company is 860 million zlotys, approximately 235 million US dollars.
In response, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Poland is advancing the militarization of space, and the ultimately high costs will be borne by its taxpayers. (Translated by Zhao Zhipeng)
