Rolls-Royce to power Korea Coast Guard Patrol Boats with mtu engines

Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) today announces it has been selected to supply mtu engines for two major Korea Coast Guard (KCG) patrol boat programs, supporting the strengthening of the fleet and expanding its maritime mission capabilities.

The KCG has announced the selection of mtu 16V 2000 M96 engines for its 50-ton class patrol boat program. Two shipsets, each equipped with two mtu 16V 2000 M96 engines, are scheduled for delivery by 2027. These new vessels will replace aging ships and enhance operational effectiveness. The overall plan calls for more than 50 shipsets over a 15-year period, ensuring sustained fleet renewal and long-term maritime security.

Additionally, mtu 20V 4000 M93L engines have been chosen for the KCG’s 500-ton class patrol boat program. Two shipsets, each with two mtu 20V 4000 M93L engines, are planned for delivery by 2027. These vessels are specifically designed to support the crackdown on illegal vessels, reinforcing the Coast Guard’s enforcement capabilities.

Both programs are currently in the design phase, with the first two ship construction orders scheduled for the second half of this year.
