Romania Signs Huge Military Purchase Contract with Rheinmetall

Rheinmetall revealed that Romania has ordered weapons and ammunition worth 5.7 billion euros. The contract includes an order for nearly 300 "Eagle" armored vehicles, as well as "air defense systems, ammunition, and 4 warships." Rheinmetall stated that these contracts have now been signed. It is said to be "the largest international order for the company in recent years."

Rheinmetall indicated that the order is being carried out under the EU's "European Security Action" framework, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028 and be completed by 2030.

Rheinmetall stated that a significant portion of the added value from this contract will be realized in Romania, with Rheinmetall investing hundreds of millions of euros in the country, "significantly expanding its existing capacity in Romania and ensuring technology transfer."

The company quoted Mihai Jurca, head of the Romanian Prime Minister's office, as saying that these contracts signed with Rheinmetall not only "provide an opportunity for the modernization of Romania's defense capabilities but also represent an important step in revitalizing the national defense industry."
