On October 5 local time, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, reported that in the early hours of the day, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked two facilities at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of which is used for handling radioactive waste, and there is currently no nuclear safety threat.

Likhachev also stated that in the past two weeks, the Ukrainian military has systematically attacked the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant, which is adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The normal operation of the relevant equipment within the thermal power plant is directly related to the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. In this situation, the staff at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant continue to ensure the safety of the plant facilities.

He noted that the attacks by the Ukrainian side have resulted in the complete destruction of about 70 infrastructure facilities in the city of Enerhodar and damage to about 50 other facilities. Additionally, a vehicle transporting food to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was recently attacked by the Ukrainian side, resulting in the death of the driver.
