According to a report by Reference News Network on August 28, the website of the Russian newspaper "Kommersant" reported on August 27 that public information shows that the Russian Ministry of Defense's Rocket and Artillery Forces have for the first time used the latest 9M723-2 ballistic missile to strike targets in Kyiv. This missile has been informally named "Iskander"-1000 due to its long range.
It is reported that the system looks almost identical to the "Iskander"-M missile system, which can launch the 9M723-1 missile with a range of 390 kilometers.
What terrifies the enemy is the 9M723-2 missile's range of up to 1000 kilometers.
There are differing opinions among military experts: some believe that the new missile uses the latest materials, significantly reducing the weight of the missile body; others argue that the key lies in the modernized engine, which can accelerate the missile at launch.
Moreover, this absolutely does not sacrifice sturdiness: the 9M723-2 missile indeed features a shell made of modern materials, allowing it to fly higher and withstand tremendous overload during maneuvering and approaching the target.
If the first batch of "Iskander" missiles had a flight altitude of 50,000 meters, the 9M723-2 reaches an altitude of 120,000 meters.
The 9M723-2 missile flies in a near-vacuum environment. There, it accelerates to 3,100 meters per second, comparable to the performance of the "Dagger" hypersonic missile; as it approaches the designated target, it dives under the control of aerodynamic control surfaces.
Before striking, the missile enters the dense atmosphere, rapidly traversing the middle layer, stratosphere, and troposphere. As it nears the target, its flight trajectory becomes quasi-ballistic.
At this point, it releases a large number of decoys to confuse enemy radar and activates a multi-band electronic warfare module to jam all signals. The missile can disappear from enemy radar in a matter of seconds. This time is sufficient for it to reach the designated target and complete the strike.
