Sudanese Leader: Ceasefire Must Be Predicated on the Complete Withdrawal of Rapid Support Forces
On the 19th local time, the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Burhan, stated that any peace agreement between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces is contingent upon the latter's complete withdrawal from the areas it occupies.
In a televised speech that day, Burhan said that the Sudanese government is willing to actively participate in any sincere peace initiatives, but the Sudanese Armed Forces will not cease fire until the Rapid Support Forces have fully withdrawn from the occupied areas. He also emphasized that any peace agreement should include a clear ceasefire timetable and that there should be no illegal armed forces outside of the government.
Since June 2025, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt have been mediating under the "Quad Security Dialogue" mechanism, seeking a ceasefire and a negotiated solution between the conflicting parties in Sudan.
