April 27
Results of the 2026 China Youth May Fourth Medal
Selection Announced
“Post-90s” Armed Police Instructor Jiang Tao
Honored as the only individual awardee in the entire military
Jiang Tao
Born in 1992, enlisted in 2011
Currently a First Class Sergeant in the Training Research Department
of the Hunan Provincial Corps of the Armed Police Force
He has been awarded first-class merit once
second-class merit once, and third-class merit twice
In November 1992
Jiang Tao was born into a poor family
in Fugou County, Zhoukou, Henan
The burden of supporting the family of seven fell entirely on his father
To alleviate the financial strain
the family sent the 9-year-old Jiang Tao
to the Henan Shaolin Martial Arts Research Institute to practice martial arts
After graduating from the Henan Shaolin Martial Arts Research Institute
he found himself at a loss and unable to find suitable work
An uncle who had served in the military told him:
“Join the army!
There are more opportunities and a broader stage in the military
It can help you grow quickly!”

Thus
Jiang Tao enlisted with questions and aspirations for military life
and arrived at the Xiangtan Detachment of the Hunan Corps
With his martial arts background
Jiang Tao quickly stood out in the recruit company
His first 3-kilometer run was completed in 11 minutes
He learned equipment training quickly
and could stand at attention without moving for several hours...

After completing recruit training
Jiang Tao participated in the preparatory special operations training organized by the corps
During one training session, he accidentally got injured
and had steel nails inserted into his wrist joint
But he insisted on participating in the training
and ultimately achieved first place
He attended sniper core training
intensive training rotations, and staff training...
Since joining the army
Jiang Tao has participated in more than a dozen training sessions
He transformed from a former “fast runner” and “equipment prince”
into what his comrades call
the “all-rounder” suited for combat missions

In 2015, 2017, and 2019
Jiang Tao represented the Armed Police Force
to teach in Jordan, Romania, and Kuwait
and received teaching certificates from the three countries
as well as the “Kuwait National Guard Honor Medal” Jiang Tao said
Every time I step out of the country, I feel incredibly proud
“Because at that moment, I am not just representing myself
but the Chinese military
and the new generation of Chinese youth
who can showcase the demeanor of Chinese soldiers to the world
and enhance national prestige and military might
This is the most glorious thing in my military career”

In September 2017
After completing his teaching mission and returning to China
he was transferred to the training base of the Hunan Corps
where the stage for training and teaching became even broader
“The students he has taught are numerous
from battalion commanders to recruits, everyone admires him!”
“His organization of training is highly professional
having represented the Armed Police Force abroad three times for teaching!”
“His shooting is incredibly accurate
hitting 98 out of 100 shots!”...
At the training base of the Hunan Corps, when Jiang Tao is mentioned
it can be said that “everyone knows him, and no one disrespects him”
In 2020
Jiang Tao was honored by the Armed Police Force as
the 23rd “Loyal Defender of the Chinese Armed Police”

From a martial arts youth to a gold medal coach
Reflecting on his more than ten years of military career
Jiang Tao said
his greatest gain
is not personal achievements and honors
but understanding the responsibility and commitment of a soldier
“As a soldier of the Armed Police Force
the word ‘loyalty’ is always kept in mind
I believe this commitment
is reflected in the resilience to push through limits
on the training ground
and in the dedication to impart knowledge
to enhance combat effectiveness”
