The Russian Ministry of Defense says the "Kazan" nuclear submarine launched cruise missiles during training.
On March 12, Xinhua News Agency reported from St. Petersburg (Reporter Chen Chang) that the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Russian Northern Fleet's nuclear submarine "Kazan" recently launched a "Granite" cruise missile during training in the Barents Sea.
The report stated that this missile launch was part of the operational training plan of the Russian Northern Fleet, with the "Kazan" submarine launching a "Granite" cruise missile from underwater, hitting a simulated enemy ship 300 kilometers away.
The "Kazan" is the first improved "Yasen" class nuclear-powered attack submarine built by Russia, launched in March 2017 and commissioned into the Russian Northern Fleet in May 2021. The submarine has a full displacement of 13,800 tons, a diving depth of 520 meters, is designed to carry a crew of 64, has a maximum underwater speed of 31 knots, and can carry weapons such as mines, torpedoes, and cruise missiles to perform anti-submarine, anti-ship, land attack, and strategic strike missions.
