The UK and France Conduct Joint Nuclear Strike Exercise for the First Time
According to a report by Reference News on October 25, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported on October 23 that the air forces of the UK and France conducted a simulated nuclear strike, marking the first joint exercise of this kind between the two sides.
The Royal Air Force's Typhoon fighters and the French Rafale fighters participated in the exercise, codenamed "Lami," earlier this week.
This is the first time that France's air-based nuclear forces have participated in a UK-France joint exercise, with the aircraft taking off from the Saint-Dizier base in northeastern France to carry out simulated nuclear strikes over the Mediterranean Sea.
The exercise aims to strengthen cooperation between these two nuclear powers.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has lasted for more than four and a half years, and tensions between NATO and Russia remain unresolved.
UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said, "This exercise marks a new chapter in UK-France nuclear defense relations. As nuclear powers in Europe, we share a common responsibility to contribute to the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic region."
"In this increasingly dangerous world, our adversaries should be clear: the UK and France stand united in our commitment to maintaining European security and upholding the deterrent system that has safeguarded peace for generations."
French Minister for the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Sébastien Lecornu said, "Possessing nuclear capabilities does not preclude cooperation. France and the UK’s nuclear cooperation continues to deepen: on the evening of the 20th, the Typhoon fighters participated in a nuclear exercise alongside the Rafale fighters for the first time."
