UN humanitarian convoy in central Sudan attacked by drone, 1 dead

Xinhua News Agency, Cairo, February 6 (Reporter Zhang Meng) Khartoum news: A statement was issued on the 6th by Dennis Brown, an official responsible for humanitarian affairs coordination in the Sudan region for the United Nations, stating that a humanitarian aid convoy from the United Nations World Food Programme was attacked by a drone in central Sudan that day, resulting in at least one death, multiple injuries, and damage to supplies.

The statement said that the convoy was attacked while en route to Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan Province in central Sudan, to deliver relief supplies to nearby displaced families.

The statement also mentioned that earlier this week, a facility of the World Food Programme near Quneitra in southeastern Sudan was also attacked by a drone, injuring one staff member. Brown called for the protection of humanitarian workers and supplies, ensuring that humanitarian aid corridors remain open.

The Sudanese civil organization "Sudan Doctors Network" issued a statement on the same day, accusing the Sudanese paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces of carrying out the attack. The Rapid Support Forces have not yet responded to this.

Recently, conflicts between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces have escalated in three states in the central and southern Kordofan region, which has become a new focal point of the conflict in Sudan.
