U.S. hits Iranian ammunition bunkers near Isfahan

The United States struck a large ammunition depot in the Iranian city of Isfahan late Monday using 2,000-pound bunker-buster bombs, according to a U.S. official cited by The Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, a high volume of bunker-buster bombs, also referred to as penetrator munitions, was used in the attack. President Donald Trump later posted an uncaptioned video on Truth Social showing a chain of explosions illuminating the night sky, which the official said captured the strike on the depot.

The footage, as described by multiple reports, appears to show multiple secondary explosions, a pattern consistent with ammunition detonation after an initial strike. Such effects are often seen when storage bunkers or depots containing missiles, artillery rounds, or rocket propellants are hit directly.

A 2,000-pound bunker-buster bomb is designed to penetrate hardened surfaces, reinforced concrete, or shallow underground structures before detonation. Unlike general-purpose bombs, penetrator munitions concentrate destructive force below the surface, making them suitable for destroying bunkers, underground depots, and fortified command facilities.

The use of these weapons against an ammunition depot indicates an effort to degrade Iran’s ability to sustain missile launches, drone attacks, or resupply military units. Destroying stockpiles can have a direct effect on sortie rates and operational tempo, particularly if the site served as a regional logistics node.

According to U.S. statements cited in the reporting, American forces have struck more than 10,000 Iranian military sites over the past month, while Israel’s military said it had hit more than 3,000 Iran-related targets.
