U.S. Issues Bounty on Senior Iranian Armed Forces Officials
On August 24, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that as the United States intensifies sanctions against Iran, the U.S. government announced a reward of up to $10 million for information regarding senior officials of the Iranian armed forces, including Major General Ahmad Vahidi, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to information released on the U.S. State Department's website, there are a total of five individuals for whom the reward has been announced, including Vahidi, as well as Major General Ali Abdollahi, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, and Brigadier General Saeed Aghajani, the commander of the Revolutionary Guard's drone command. Currently, there are a total of 14 individuals listed on the latest U.S. reward notice.
On March 13 of this year, the U.S. offered rewards for information on Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and other high-ranking Iranian military and political officials.
In mid-August, Major General Hatami, the commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, announced that any Iranian who captures or kills an American "invader" will receive a reward of $30,000 provided by the "Iranian people."
