U.S. Media: Lebanese Officials Say Hezbollah is Ready for a Full Ceasefire with Israel

On June 1, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that Ali Hamdan, a senior advisor to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, stated that Berri has informed the U.S. side that Hezbollah is ready for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire with Israel and has committed to ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Hamdan said he called U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michele Sison on May 31 to inform her on behalf of Speaker Berri that "Hezbollah is ready to fully implement the ceasefire agreement, and we are also prepared to guarantee this."

Hamdan confirmed that the Trump administration proposed a partial ceasefire plan over the weekend, which included Hezbollah stopping attacks on northern Israel, Israel refraining from bombing the Lebanese capital Beirut, and subsequently expanding the ceasefire to other areas. He said Berri's response was, "Why a partial ceasefire? Let's achieve a comprehensive ceasefire." Berri proposed a full implementation of the ceasefire and requested that Israel commit to stopping the demolition of houses in southern Lebanon within this framework.

Hamdan stated that Berri is able to communicate with Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, "We are confident that Hezbollah will adhere to the comprehensive ceasefire agreement."

However, Axios reported, citing an informed source, that U.S. officials have informed Berri that they believe Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will not agree to this plan. An Israeli official confirmed that Hezbollah has indeed expressed a willingness for a comprehensive ceasefire and has not demanded an immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops.

On June 1, Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a statement saying that, given Hezbollah's "repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement," they have ordered the Israeli military to carry out airstrikes in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut. The Israeli Times commented that recent actions by Israel indicate that the ceasefire announced on April 17 between Israel and Lebanon "has essentially failed."
