U.S. Media: Trump Has Informed Congress of the Resurgence of Conflict with Iran
On July 13, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Yan Liang) that U.S. President Trump has officially notified Congress that hostilities with Iran have resumed.
The report stated that the newspaper obtained a letter from Trump to congressional leaders dated the 10th, in which he wrote that the U.S. military conducted a "defensive strike" against targets within Iran on the 7th.
The report pointed out that this letter has further intensified the dispute between Congress and the White House, despite both chambers of Congress having previously voted to require the president to end the war or seek approval to continue actions. However, the White House insists that Trump, as Commander-in-Chief, is acting within his constitutional powers.
Previously, on June 23, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution limiting the president's war powers, demanding that President Trump end military actions against Iran and that he must obtain congressional authorization before taking any future military actions against Iran. This resolution had already been passed by the House of Representatives.
