On May 27, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that CNN cited a U.S. official as saying that on the same day, Eastern Time, the U.S. military conducted new airstrikes in Iran, targeting "a location that poses a threat to U.S. forces and commercial shipping." The U.S. military also intercepted several drones launched from Iran.

According to the Iranian Fars News Agency, around 1:30 a.m. local time on the 28th, three explosions were heard east of the southern Iranian city of Abadan. At the same time, the air defense system in Abadan was activated and fired for several minutes.

Late at night on the 25th, three explosions were also heard in Abadan. Subsequent reports from the U.S. Central Command and U.S. media indicated that the U.S. military conducted "defensive" airstrikes against two Iranian vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz and against Iranian air defense missile launch sites in Abadan. Iran accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire agreement.
