U.S. Military Claims Boarding Inspection of an "Iran-Related" Oil Tanker
On April 21, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the U.S. Department of Defense announced on social media that the U.S. military boarded and inspected a "Iran-related" oil tanker on the evening of the 20th.
Vessel tracking data showed that the tanker was located in the Indian Ocean, between Sri Lanka and Indonesia at the time.
The report stated that the tanker, named "Tiffany," is "stateless and sanctioned," and the U.S. military conducted a maritime interception and boarding inspection of the tanker without any incidents.
The report also mentioned that the U.S. military will carry out maritime law enforcement operations "globally" to intercept sanctioned vessels providing "material support" to Iran.
According to U.S. media reports, the tanker was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury for "smuggling Iranian crude oil."
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Milley recently stated that the U.S. military will track any vessels flying the Iranian flag or attempting to provide material support to Iran in the Pacific and other waters.
