U.S. Military Claims New Round of Strikes Against Iranian Targets
On September 1, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that the U.S. Central Command announced on social media that U.S. forces began a new round of strikes against targets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) within Iran at 12:00 PM Eastern Time on the 1st.
The report stated that the IRGC had attempted to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. personnel deployed in the region. However, the report did not specify the exact locations of the U.S. strikes.
According to Iranian media reports on the 1st, multiple explosions were heard that night around Qeshm Island in southern Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. There are currently no reports of casualties or damage to facilities.
On August 30, the U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying that U.S. forces conducted a "limited precision" operation against the IRGC's mine-laying units, accusing them of posing a threat to navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz. According to several U.S. media reports, U.S. forces struck two rocket launchers located on Iran's Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz, stating that IRGC personnel were preparing to use these launchers to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz at that time. On August 31, the Iranian Foreign Ministry and military stated that in response to the U.S. attack on Larak Island, Iranian armed forces targeted U.S. positions in Jordan and the UAE, and shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone. U.S. President Trump stated on August 31 that there would be a counterattack against Iran for the attack on the U.S. base in Jordan.
The U.S. military launched airstrikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard targets on September 1 at 12:00 PM EDT, with explosions reported near Geshm Island and the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes targeted rocket launchers on Larak Island, which were allegedly being prepared for use against shipping in the Strait.
