Xinhua News Agency, Kuwait City, October 5 (Reporter Yin Zhao) Aden news: A Yemeni government military official told Xinhua reporters on the 5th that the Yemeni government forces launched a counteroffensive against the Houthi positions controlling the strategic high ground around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that day.

The military spokesperson for the Joint Forces on Yemen's western coast, Wadah Dubais, told reporters that under air cover, the government forces advanced from multiple directions towards the Zubab area in the southwestern Taiz province and engaged in combat with the Houthi forces occupying the high ground around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. "Military operations are still ongoing, and the Saudi-led coalition is providing air cover to support the government ground forces."

Dubais also stated that with the support of local tribal armed groups, the government forces have recaptured multiple positions, cutting off a supply line for the Houthi forces to transport reinforcements to their troops near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and have captured several Houthi personnel.

On the same day, Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, issued a statement through the Saba News Agency, which is controlled by the Yemeni government, announcing the launch of "Operation Yemen Dawn" to restore the functioning of national institutions, liberate the capital Sana'a, and end the Houthi rebellion.

The Houthi-controlled Masirah TV reported on the 5th, citing a military source from the Houthi forces, denying that the government forces had made progress in the Zubab direction, claiming that the related information was "completely false."

Recently, the Houthi forces have intensified their offensive against the government forces, controlling several key areas in Taiz province, including the capture of the port city of Mocha and the main road connecting the neighboring province and the port city of Aden. Al-Alimi announced the initiation of military operations in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on the 4th to reclaim areas recently controlled by the Houthi forces.
