Yemen's Houthi Forces Claim Attacks on Two Saudi Oil Tankers in One Day
Xinhua News Agency, Cairo, August 5 (Reporter Yin Zhao, Wu Baoshu) - Sana'a reports: The Houthi armed group announced on the evening of the 5th that it had attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden. This is the second time the group has announced an attack on a Saudi oil tanker that day.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the Houthi armed group launched a ballistic missile that "hit" an oil tanker named "Daisy," forcing the vessel to return.
The statement claimed that this attack is part of the Houthi armed group's maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, and the group is closely monitoring Saudi oil tankers, intending to prevent them from passing through the southern and northern Red Sea.
Earlier on the 5th, Saree issued a statement saying that the Houthi armed group launched multiple ballistic missiles that "precisely" struck a Saudi oil tanker near the Saudi port city of Yanbu in the northern Red Sea. The statement noted that since the maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia began in late July, the Houthi armed group has cumulatively attacked 8 Saudi oil tankers and intercepted and forced 29 Saudi oil tankers to return in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
The Saudi side has not yet responded to this.
