J-10 Vigorous Dragon

The Chengdu J-10, often called Vigorous Dragon, is a Chinese single-engine multirole fighter developed for the People's Liberation Army Air Force. It represented a major step away from older J-7 and Q-5-era aircraft toward a modern fighter with fly-by-wire controls, beyond-visual-range weapons, and day/night multirole employment. Its importance lies in the industrial leap as much as the aircraft itself.

The J-10's capability profile is comparable to other lightweight multirole fighters: it can perform air-superiority, interception, and ground-attack missions while carrying Chinese and imported weapons depending on variant. Later upgrades improved avionics, radar, and weapons integration. This makes the J-10 family more than a baseline fighter; it is a platform China has repeatedly updated to keep relevant.

Operationally, the J-10 should be linked to China's wider fighter modernization. It gave the PLAAF a domestically controlled platform and helped build the design, engine-integration, avionics, and weapons experience that shaped later variants. That development context adds much more value than a short aircraft description.
