Yak-130 Mitten

The Yak-130 is a Russian twin-seat advanced jet trainer designed to prepare pilots for modern fourth- and fifth-generation combat aircraft. It also has a light-attack role, making it useful for air forces that need one airframe for lead-in fighter training, weapons instruction, and limited combat missions.

The aircraft combines modern avionics, digital flight controls, and programmable training modes that can emulate the handling and cockpit workload of larger fighters. External hardpoints allow weapons training and light strike missions, while the two-seat layout supports instructor oversight during advanced tactical training.

Yak-130's value is strongest in pilot pipelines. It reduces the need to spend expensive frontline fighter hours on basic advanced training, while still exposing students to sensors, weapons, and high-performance jet handling. Its combat use is secondary and most credible in lower-threat environments or with upgraded mission systems.
