Research Notes

Advanced jet trainer and light combat platform

The Hongdu JL-10, also marketed as the L-15 Falcon, is an advanced jet trainer intended to bridge the gap between basic training and modern frontline fighters. It gives pilots experience with high-performance handling, digital avionics, and mission systems before they move to aircraft such as the J-10, J-11, J-16, or J-20.

Fighter-lead-in training

The aircraft's tandem cockpit, modern displays, and weapons-training options support air-combat instruction, navigation, and tactical employment practice. Armed variants also allow the same airframe family to perform light-attack or advanced weapons training, improving utilization for air forces that need both trainer and limited combat capacity.
