Overview
G-41
The Heckler & Koch G41 is a German 5.56×45mm NATO assault rifle introduced in 1981, designed to replace the G3 and HK33 with a roller-delayed blowback mechanism. Despite its modern features and compatibility with various ammunition types, it was not commercially successful and was discontinued after limited production, with several variants including different stock configurations and a grenade launcher option.

Research Notes

Limited-production bridge before the G36 era

The G41 is important because it shows H&K's transitional thinking before the polymer-framed G36. It did not become a major service rifle, partly because the market was shifting toward lighter, cheaper, more modular gas-operated designs. Its historical value is as a late roller-delayed assault-rifle branch rather than a broad adoption success.
