Naval Multifunction AESA Radar

MF-STAR is an Israeli naval AESA radar for surveillance, tracking, and fire-control support.

The EL/M-2248 MF-STAR, short for Multi-Function Surveillance, Track and Guidance Radar, is a naval active electronically scanned-array radar developed by IAI ELTA. Open-source and product-sheet descriptions frame it as a multifunction system for warships, able to track air and surface targets while supporting weapon guidance. It is intended for modern naval platforms that need one radar family to contribute to surveillance, threat tracking, and engagement support.

Fast Track Updates For Air And Missile Threats

The radar's AESA architecture supports rapid refresh, multiple tracks, and engagement-quality data.

MF-STAR's combat value comes from rapid multi-target tracking in a cluttered maritime environment. Naval ships face aircraft, sea-skimming missiles, drones, surface contacts, and electronic countermeasures. An AESA radar can form and steer beams electronically, update tracks quickly, and support missile engagements without a mechanically rotating antenna. That capability is especially important for ships that must defend themselves and nearby units against saturation or low-altitude attacks.

Exported Naval Sensor Layer

MF-STAR has become a visible radar choice on modern Indian and Israeli warships.

MF-STAR is significant because it appears on prominent modern naval programs, including Israeli and Indian warships. The radar therefore represents more than a single sensor: it is a component of ship combat-system architecture, missile integration, and export defense relationships. For equipment users, the radar page should help connect naval electronics with air-defense capability instead of treating warships only by hull and missile counts.
