On April 28, Xinhua News Agency reported from Buenos Aires (reporters Zhang Duo and Wang Zhongyi) that the Argentine Ministry of Defense announced that the Argentine Navy and the United States Navy are conducting joint military exercises in the South Atlantic.
The exercises are taking place within Argentina's exclusive economic zone, with several Argentine naval vessels participating alongside the U.S. Navy's USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and USS Gridley destroyer in maritime search and rescue, defense, and attack drills.
According to Argentine media reports, the USS Nimitz entered Argentine territorial waters on the 26th. Argentine President Milei may visit the ship.
It is reported that this exercise is part of the U.S. Navy's "Southern Waters 2026" exercise, which was initiated in March of this year. Previously, the USS Nimitz had conducted exercises with the navies of Latin American countries such as Ecuador and Chile.
