Attack in Sudan's North Kordofan State Leaves 15 Civilians Dead
Xinhua News Agency, Cairo, July 24 (Reporter Zhang Meng) Khartoum news: The government of North Kordofan State in central Sudan announced on the 24th that the Beber area, south of the state capital El Obeid, was attacked by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, resulting in the deaths of 15 civilians and injuries to 7 others.
Military sources in Sudan told Xinhua reporters that the Rapid Support Forces deployed about 15 combat vehicles and launched two surprise attacks on the Beber area on the evening of the 23rd and the morning of the 24th, engaging in fierce firefights with the Sudanese Armed Forces that arrived on the 24th for several hours. The attacks caused panic among nearby residents, with many families fleeing to El Obeid for refuge.
A spokesperson for the North Kordofan State government stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces have repelled the Rapid Support Forces and are conducting search and pursuit operations. The Rapid Support Forces have not yet responded to this statement.
Recently, conflicts between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have escalated in three states of the Kordofan region. Currently, the Rapid Support Forces control almost all areas of West Kordofan State and are besieging El Obeid from three sides, attempting to seize control of it.
On April 15, 2023, armed conflicts broke out between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas.
